Mick Longman

Mick first got into music during the sixties listening to The Beatles, Stones, Who, The Beach boys and all the great bands of the time. He kept nagging his parents until they brought him his first guitar (an acoustic with an action that was almost impossible to play). With a few friends Mick started a band which, to their amazement, got a booking at their school concert. This was something of a worry because they only knew three Shadows numbers, I want to be your man by the Stones, and the theme from Z cars (one of the band had a mouth organ). But we somehow they away with it and Mick was hooked.

Mick spent the next few years in lots of different bands playing all types of music. He eventually decided he wasn't going to be another Eric Clapton and switched from 6 strings to 4.

In the early seventies Mick had a half decent outfit called "Buster" and was getting a lot of work, so the band decided to give up their day jobs and turn "pro" .

For the next two years Buster toured all over Britain in an old Transit van and played with some top glam rock acts of the time. All good things come to an end though and eventually the band split up and the guys went back to the real world of 9 till 5 work.

Mick continued to play in bands and in the early '70's was an original member of local band "Rebel". About this time he first met Pete and they did a few bookings together.

Since the eighties Mick has played in numerous bands including "Misty" ,"Spiral", "Going by camel" to name a few. He did a couple of summer seasons on the exotic Isle of Sheppey and slummed it in Lanzarote for two weeks with Misty.

Over the years Mick supported or backed The Foundations, Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Three Degrees, The Baron Knights, Jim Davidson, Frank Carson ,Cannon and Ball, Bobby Davro and (can you believe it?) a couple he'd rather forget.

Then several years ago Mick hung up the 5 string, for good he thought. Then out of the blue he bumped into his old friend Pete who called up to see if he'd be interested in playing a one off gig for a wedding. Mick thought why not, met the lads, had a live rehearsal, and was once again hooked. Since then things have gone really well, the Aces have kept pretty busy and long may it last. Long live "Wasted Aces"!
