Tour Review 2007

Tour Review July 07

I've never been attracted in any way to performing bands that profess to be a tribute to the past greatness of others. The 'counterfeit' this, or the 'bootleg' that.

However, The Wasted Aces are something uniquely different: very different. They are five more-than-capable multi-instrumentalists that simply love playing the music of legendary Rock Bands. There are no gimmicks, there are no wigs or makeup - The Wasted Aces doesn't need any of that. They let the music and their talent speak for themselves.

On Saturday night they held the audience in Corby's Willows Arts Centre spellbound with their immense talent for musicianship and close vocal harmony. In short, they were brilliant value and certainly worth a second look.

Back for more

Prior to seeing The Wasted Aces for the first time a few months ago in Kettering's Macinlay Theatre I must confess to being somewhat sceptical. After all, how dare anyone or any band think that they can reproduce the sound of one of the world's top attractions? But they did.

They did it again in Corby on Saturday and had the audience dancing to great Rock classics like "Won,t get fooled again" and "White Room". They opened the set with the unforgettable "Hotel California". The one remarkable thing that it's worth remembering about the Eagles is that not only did they leave their mark as a 'superstar' band, but that each member has managed to pursue successful solo careers: something not lost on The Wasted Aces.
They performed Peter Framton's 'Show me the way', Carlos Santansa's 'She's not there' and Eric Clapton's 'Layla', to name but a few. It's a show for all ages and taste. (Even my wife, Caroline, found them easy on the eye! Her words not mine. I think it had something to do with leather pants and purple jackets!) The Wasted Aces split their show into, what they call two acts.

Act one is simply the best of Classic Soul and Soft Rock songs. Then from the timeless Rock song "Radar Love" and the heart stopping three part harmony of "When something's wrong (with my baby)" you will journey through such lyrical melodies as "Don't Wonna miss a thing", "Easy" and "Whiter shade of pale".
